![]() At Grace Lutheran Church in Smithville, TX, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ works through His Word and Sacraments to bring us what we need most desperately: the forgiveness of sins.
By His Word of Law, God tells us that we are all sinners (Romans 3:23). As sinners, we are spiritually dead (Ephesians 2:1) and God’s enemies (Romans 5:10). We can do nothing for ourselves to change that horrible condition (Romans 3:20). Yet, God also speaks to us His Word of Good News, His precious Gospel! Even while we were enemies of God, He sent His Son Jesus to take our sins upon Himself and die on the cross in our place (2 Corinthians 5:21). Three days later, Jesus rose from the dead, defeating death, our worst enemy (1 Corinthians 15:55-57). Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, God has given us the forgiveness of sins, everlasting life, and eternal salvation (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). That’s the Good News that is for all people—including you! That’s the Good News that is proclaimed every week at Grace Lutheran Church! Every Sunday morning, in the Divine Service, God comes to us through His Word and Sacraments, His means of grace, to deliver to us the forgiveness of sins once again. Here God strengthens and nourishes us as Christians to live as His children. It’s the most important thing that happens for us every week. But the Good News of Jesus isn’t heard just on Sunday morning. The Gospel permeates everything that happens at Grace—Bible classes for adults and children, men’s and women’s groups, community service projects, and more. Our congregation’s name says it all. Here at Grace, God brings to us over and over the best news He has: God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense are for you! |
